The Brooklyn Review is looking for new poetry, fiction, plays, nonfiction and visual art. We are particularly interested in featuring BIPOC voices and perspectives.

Please submit only one work per reading period in any genre, and please, only original, previously unpublished works. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Fiction: Up to 6,000 words. We want: Short stories of any style that move us.

Nonfiction: Up to 3,500 words. We want: Memoir, essays, and short criticisms that are fresh and engaging. We're interested in formal and narrative experimentation, politically conscious writing, sharp cultural analysis, brief reviews of contemporary art and literature, and diverse stories about New York. We don't want: Your diary, your Sally Rooney hot take, your Lena Dunham-coded Brooklyn.

Poetry: Up to 5 poems. Please format and submit your work in a single document.

Performance texts: Up to 20 pages.

Art: Photography, drawings, paintings, comics, multimedia, and digital art. Up to 5 jpegs, pdfs, etc.
